Frequently Asked Questions

All your questions, answered.

Please reach out if you have additional questions that were not addressed.

How can we start?

You may fill out the contact form here.

I will get back to you within 24-48 hours to schedule your Free Introductory 15-minute consultation phone call.

This call is an opportunity to share your therapy goals, answer any questions, and explore how I may help to see if we would be a good fit to work together.

What is the frequency & duration of therapy?

The first intake appt. is a 60-minute session. Subsequent sessions are typically 45-minutes and occur on a weekly basis, unless otherwise planned.

The length of therapy is dependent on your progress, which is different for each individual. We can monitor the progress being made and tailor therapy as needed. I find that being open-minded in regards to the length and frequency of sessions works best to assist in the process of change.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you do not cancel or at reschedule sessions at least 24 hours in advance, you will be responsible for the full session fee.

If you are being seen through insurance, please note that insurance often does not cover no-shows or late cancellation appts.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in-network for NYS residents with Aetna, United Healthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. I accept insurance through Headway. You can use this link to check your in-network coverage.

What are benefits of working with OON provider?

Self-pay means that you are in control of your medical record. It is up to you if you’d like to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. If you would prefer not to have a diagnosis on your medical record, then you can refrain from submitting and maintain your privacy. Similarly, your insurance company can’t dictate what kind of care you receive, how often you are able to be seen, or what treatment is right for you. In collaboration with your therapist, you get to decide.

What can I expect?

New patients will start with an intake session where I will ask you questions to gather information about your history, past and current mental health concerns, and identify the best course of treatment.

We will explore and identify your personal therapy goals to create an individualized treatment plan. that will be our focus during each session. Together we will process past and current life stressors, identify helpful and unhelpful thought patterns or behaviors, and weave in skill-building to create positive change behavior, as needed. Much work is done collaboratively; however, growth is optimized through practice in-between sessions.

What is teletherapy?

Teletherapy is very similar to in-person session, however it is conducted online via a secure HIPAA compliant video-chat platform. It can be accessed by smart phone, computer, or tablet with a secure internet connection.

I recommend meeting in a private setting behind a closed door, which mimics the same privacy that an in-person session offers. Headphones are always beneficial!

How effective is teletherapy?

Research has shown that teletherapy is just as effective as in-person treatment. It also offers greater flexibility in scheduling and being in the comfort of your own home.

Additionally, if we are focusing on using CBT-ERP, teletherapy offers an advantage to applying the exposure therapy work in your home.

What if you don't take my insurance?

If you have out-of-network benefits for mental health, I can provide a monthly Superbill that can be submitted for reimbursement if you choose.

How do I know if I have OON Benefits?

I recommend calling your insurance company to inquire about reimbursement for out-of-network mental health coverage. Typically, out of network benefits include a deductible that must be met before partial reimbursement for services are paid by an insurance company.

For therapy, you can specifically ask about the rate they reimburse for CPT codes 90791 (60-minute initial intake session) and 90834 (45-minute therapy session).
